A Fine day out at the GT Porsche Track Day
A grey and slightly dank start made way for an entire day’s action at Brands Hatch with the GT Porsche track day. Any threat of rain was alleviated by the time the briefing took place at 8:30am with around 50 drivers packed in to hear the rules of the day. It wasn’t just those attending the track day that had made the early trip to Brands; GT Porsche’s contributor and Carrera Cup GB runner-up, Dino Zamparelli, was there and our friends at RAID Simulators were busy setting up two of their products to continue the action off track.
The first session kicked off at 9:30 after some initial sighting laps with 20 cars allowed out around Brands’ 1.2 mile indy circuit at a time. With an open pit lane setup, there was a constant turnover of cars enjoying the dry, consistent conditions throughout the day.
In the GT Porsche pit garage the action continued away from the track as people took to the RAID simulators to test their skills against Dino Zamparelli. Dino himself had put in consistent laps of around 45.5 seconds and reckoned the simulator – with its VR headset – was about the best he had tried, recreating Brands Hatch in fantastic detail. Rob Durrant, one of Porsche GB’s top PR people, wasn’t far behind, and numerous people throughout the day got to within 5 seconds of Dino’s time. However, ultimately it proved insurmountable!
Porsche GB had been kind enough to bring a Cayman GT4 road car and their GT4 Clubsport, providing passenger laps to a number of people with either Dino or Rob at the wheel. The road-going GT4 is pretty handy around the track, but anyone who went in the Clubsport agreed it was on another level, passing everything it came across thanks to its superior grip delivered by sticky slick tyres and downforce. That it had a racing driver behind the wheel more often than not also helped…
We’re already thinking about what we can do to make our track events bigger and better in 2017 so stay tuned for announcements. For now, we’d just like to thank everyone who attended, and have a look at our photo gallery to get a flavour of the action.
