New GT3 RS Officially Revealed
Porsche has officially revealed the new second-generation 991 GT3 RS. The latest Rennsport 911 is based upon the existing GT3, but raises the bar with a breathed upon version of the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre engine, which now develops 520hp and revs to 9,000rpm – it accelerates from 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds and onto a top speed of 193 mph. The new GT3 RS comes with a specially calibrated seven-speed version of Porsche’s PDK double-clutch transmission.
Further features include re-calibrated rear axle steering and revised suspension for quicker reactions. Aerodynamics play a large part in the car’s design, taking inspiration from GT 911s of old and importantly the recent GT2 RS – its distinctive rear wing is perhaps where this is most overt, on the front large ducts like those found on the GT2 RS appear.
Inside form continues to follow function; sculpted sports seats made of carbon fibre feature with a carbon-weave finish. Its lightweight body is typically of the RS concept, in this instance that is demonstrated right through to lightweight door panels with fabric door loops, reduced sound absorption materials and a new, lighter rear engine cover.
The Clubsport package features technology lifted directly from motorsport. Solid ball joints feature on all suspension arms to provide more accurate control compared with conventional elasto-kinematic bearings. Lightweight 20-inch forged alloy wheels with newly-developed 265/35 tyres sit on the front axle, while 21-inch versions wheels with 325/30 tyres are found on the rear. As with all current 911 GT models, the Clubsport package is available here at no extra cost. The package includes a roll-over bar, a manual fire extinguisher, preparation for a battery disconnect switch and a six-point harness on the driver’s seat for a comprehensive track day set-up.
For those who want to go a step further comes the Weissach Package offers additional weight savings. It features additional carbon-fibre components for the chassis, interior and exterior, as well as optional magnesium wheels. In its lightest configuration, this package reduces the weight of the new GT3 RS to 1,430 kg.
The new 911 GT3 RS is available to order now in the UK priced from £141,346.00 with first deliveries expected in early summer.
