New Panamera Breaks Nürburgring Record
It may have only been officially released last week but the new Porsche Panamera has already chalked up one record against its name. With a lap time of just seven minutes and 39 seconds, the new Panamera Turbo is officially the fastest luxury saloon around the ‘Green Hell’.
Development driver, Lars Kern, was given the task of setting the record. His time not only beat the previous holder – the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio – by a second, it represented a 14 second improvement over the previous generation Panamera which completed the demanding 20.832km course in seven minutes 52 seconds. With the only modifications to the car being a roll cage and racing seat, the record bodes well for future owners who want to take the car on track.
Porsche is understandably patting itself on the back for setting this new benchmark with Gernot Döllner, Head of the Panamera Model Line stating, “On the one hand the Panamera is a comfortable luxury saloon, while on the other it is a thoroughbred sports car. Seven minutes and 38 seconds was an impressive time, which shows what the vehicle is capable of on the performance front.”
Test driver Lars Kern was equally pleased with the Panamera’s on-track abilities, “The engine delivers an incredible amount of power, yet is nevertheless controllable – the car is perfect to drive!”
As you can see from the video Porsche has produced on its achievement, the new Panamera looks very much at home on the track and sounds good with it.
