Rare Porsche 964s at Salon Privé Auction
Blenheim Palace will host the 2015 Salon Privé auction on Friday 4th September, providing a chance for car collectors and enthusiasts to acquire some of the rarest cars in the world. Included in the sale of pre-war classics through to modern supercars are a number of Porsche cars likely to generate interest. Amongst the lots are two 911s that caught our eye – a pair of rare 964s sure to interest the Porsche community.
The first is a 1993 964 Turbo 3.6-litre car, estimated to sell for between £160,000 and £180,000. Porsche only produced 1500 versions of the 360hp model worldwide, with only 31 examples sold new in the UK.
This particular car was supplied new to the Pendragon Motor Group in Cardiff on the 1st of August 1993. The original service booklet, along with the under-bonnet sticker, confirm the car was sold new as a ‘C16’ UK car and was finished in the special order colour of Amazon Green Pearl Effect. Additional factory options included sports seats, top-tinted windscreen and a sunroof. The 964 comes with its original supplied service book, tools, and jack, while the service history substantiates a mileage of 77k with stamps from both specialists and Porsche main agents.
In 2013 this car underwent extensive re-commissioning with Porsche specialist Booklands, of Kent, this included a full mechanical and aesthetic refresh. The car is offered from a significant private collection.
The second 964 to catch our eye is a 1992 Turbo S Lightweight. This 1992 car is estimated to make between £390,000 and £420,000. The 964 Turbo S Leichtbau (Light build) is one of 86 examples built.
With 380hp Porsche boasted significant weight reduction over its Turbo siblings, with overall weight reduced by 180kg through the loss of under body protection, sound proofing, air conditioning, power steering and rear seats. Thinner gauge glass, aluminium doors, a carbon fibre luggage compartment and unique carpets also aided the weight loss.
This right hand drive example, chassis 74, was delivered to its first and current owner and registered during March 1993 and is finished in a special order colour of Electric Blue Metallic with a contrasting black leather interior. It has covered just 23k miles since new and features the optional extra of air conditioning, together with power assisted steering.
The Salon Privé Auction takes place at Blenheim Palace on the evening of Friday 4th September 2015. Viewing of lots is available on Thursday 3rd September and Friday 4th September 2015. Bidding at the auction can be done either in person by attending the sale, by telephone, by leaving a commission bid or live online.
