Timewarp 1985 Porsche 911 On Sale
Traditionally the mid-80s Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 is one of the most affordable ways of getting into Porsche ownership. With prices starting at around £30,000, a good record of reliability, plentiful spares and specialists – as well as that air cooled soundtrack – cars of this era are a sensible choice.
So would you spend £85k on one?
Usually the obvious answer would be a resounding ‘no’, but then again it’s not often you find one with just 4,429 miles on the clock. And in fact, this could be one of the lowest mileage 3.2 Carreras on sale globally.
Currently for sale with Hexagon Classics, this particular car is really rather unique. Finished in unblemished metallic Garnet Red paint, the car was originally supplied by Porsche America and has spent most of its 31 year life tucked away in a garage. From whatever angle you look at it this car is wonderfully original and retro. It has the obligatory 16-inch Fuchs alloy wheels, no ‘whale tail’ spoiler to sully the classic lines and an interior that looks showroom fresh. Even the Blackpunt radio-cassette, complete with five-way graphic equaliser is still in situ.
The 3.2 Carrera followed the SC series and is regarded as the last ‘original’ 911. It benefitted from a digital engine management ignition system and Bosch L-Tronic fuel injection – which increased performance and reduced fuel consumption. Driven through Porsche’s 915 5-speed manual gearbox, the 3.2-litre flat six produced 231bhp and 209lb ft of torque. Performance – for the era – was very good, with the 3.2 being able to hit 60mph in 6.3 seconds.
Paul Michaels, chairman of Hexagon Classics, said: “This is a massive opportunity for someone to purchase a true collector’s item. It is always difficult to find 911s of this era with low mileage – they were built to be used daily after all – but to find a Carrera 3.2 with less than 5,000 miles on the clock is almost unheard of. This model has been perfectly preserved and is ideal for a Porsche enthusiast who wants to enjoy the raw 911 experience.”
So if you’ve got very deep pockets and think a sub-5,000 mile, £85,000 1985 911 Carrera 3.2 is worth a punt, this is the car for you.
