The 45th Anniversary Barrett-Jackson Auction
Barrett-Jackson will bring several collectible Porsches under the hammer in Phoenix during a nine-day auction that takes place between the 23rd and 31st January, 2016. The firm’s 45th Anniversary event at WestWorld in Scottsdale, includes Porsches of all vintages, from a pair of 1960s 356 Cabriolets to a 2015 918 Spyder Weissach package.
The auction will mark the first time Barrett-Jackson has offered a 918 Spyder for sale, and being a Weissach package model, lot number 1392, is certainly a special example. With magnesium wheels, a lightweight brake setup, plus ceramic and titanium chassis parts unique to the Weissach package, this particular example has covered just 595 miles.
Equally as rare as the aforementioned 918 Spyder is lot number 1368; a 1989 911 Speedster. One of just 814 examples produced for the United States that year, the Speedster comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and has covered just 12,627 miles, the car is sure to raise some interest at auction. Likewise a 1977 930 Turbo finished in Ice Green Metallic, lot number 1367, is tipped to prove popular. The car is a matching numbers affair with its original 3.0-litre engine and transmission in situ, it comes complete with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, its original owner’s manual, warranty book and tools.
Barrett-Jackson will also auction a 42,000-mile Champagne Yellow 1965 Porsche 356SC Cabriolet (lot number 1385). The car has undergone a comprehensive restoration, during which desirable options such as chrome wheels, Blaupunkt radio, and a dash-mounted factory exterior temperature gauge were added. Likewise a 1962 356 Super 90 Cabriolet (lot number 1386), has also undergone a restoration, the rust-free California car looks like new finished in ivory paint with a black top and red leather interior.
Finally, lot number 487 caught our eye; a genuine DP Zimmerman-built 935. The Targa model is extremely rare, features the Zimmerman factory plate and is offered with no reserve. The 3.3-litre DP machine was first registered to Country and Western singer Lynn Anderson in Louisiana during June 1984 with 600 miles on its odometer. It has since been in the care of two further owners in Texas and Virginia, and its paperwork backs up a total mileage of 32,848.
